Wind Uplift Paver System

High wind and severe site conditions require an outstanding paver system. Tile Tech has developed the Hex-Tray™ system, which is an engineered system used in conjunction with our porcelain roof pavers & adjustable pedestals on top of roof decks to prevent wind-uplift while also providing added safety in case of breakage of pavers. Our patented system is designed especially for the most severe conditions, which require an elevated roof paver pedestal system.

The Hex-Tray™ system creates a solid paver surface which provides high wind uplift resistance. Our system locks down and utilizes the entire roof paver surface, preventing horizontal and vertical movement.

Porcelain Pavers are comprised of a 2-cm / 20mm single layer of load-bearing porcelain designed for use in conjunction with raised pedestals and deck support systems as well as other dry installation and traditional fixing methods allowing total flexibility in design applications.

Adjustable Pedestals

Our PATENTED Hybrid pedestal system is designed for porcelain pavers to lay level over a built up roofs & allow for self leveling, screw adjustable, PVC pipe adjustable and stack-able.

Installation Guide

Easy installation

General installation steps, FIRST the pedestals grid is laid out and pedestals are assembled and tuned to the correct heights using string lines and laser level. SECOND, the Hex-Tray and the porcelain pavers are pre-assembled and adhered using M-1 Chem Link Adhesive and stacked 15 high in a star configuration on top of furniture dollies for easy movement. THIRD, the built-in 1/8” spacers on the Uni-Cap are removed and a 1/16” Hex-Spacer is snapped on top of pedestals. FOURTH, the Hex-Tray/Porcelain Pavers assembly is then placed on top of pedestals and after 3 unites are installed the Hex-Lock Disk are inserted into the curf-cut corners of the 3 trays and the 4th Hex-Tray/Porcelain Paver panel is installed. FINALLY, a 1-1/4” screw is inserted into Hex-Lock Disk and hand tightened.

Porcelain Pavers

Wind Uplift Paver Testing

Tile Tech is the industry leader when it comes to rooftop decks and wind uplift pavers and pedestal considerations. In 2013 Tile Tech was chosen as the company to work with a leading academic institution, for an academic research study and a large-scale test on wind uplift of roof pavers and published in the Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics.

In this experimental study, researchers investigated the wind loading on concrete roof pavers on the flat roof of a low-rise building. Wind blow-off and pressure measurement tests were conducted on top and bottom surfaces of roof pavers using the 12-fan Wall of Wind (WOW) facility at Florida International University. The study was undertaken with 12″ x 12″ x 1″ thick concrete pavers. Wind blow-off tests and pressure measurements on the top and bottom surfaces of the pavers was performed focusing on net pressure distributions and an examination of the ratio of the spacing between pavers to the pedestal height on the susceptibility to blow off.

Adjustable height pedestals were used to change the height between the pavers and the roof surface. A constant gap of 1/8″ was maintained between the pavers while pedestal heights were varied from 1 1/4″ to 4 1/2″.

The primary conclusion was that increasing the ratio of the spacing between pavers to the height of the deck off the roof surface increases the wind speed at which blow off the pavers will occur. Based on the experimental results, simplified guidelines are developed for the design of loose-laid roof pavers against wind uplift. The guidelines are formatted so that use can be made of the existing information in codes and standards such as American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) 7-10 standard’s pressure coefficients for components and cladding
